Malacaņang to Bishop Cruz: Jueteng inquiry is a dead issue

MANILA (8 August) -- "The 'jueteng' inquiry is already a dead issue."

The pronouncement was made by Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye in response to Archbishop Oscar Cruz accusation that Malacaņang bribed and harassed witnesses who had implicated President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in election and jueteng controversies in efforts to survive her presidency.

Bunye said the present administration is empathizing with the Bishop Cruz for being misled by false witnesses, and expressed fear that his innate fairness and impartiality has been manipulated by the opposition in its dark designs.

The opposition, he pointed out, shows no compunction in hiding behind the cloth to betray the truth.

Nevertheless, Bunye continued, what is important is that the Chief Executive has been vindicated by the very same person who was inveigled to vilify her and the First family as the Arroyo Government moves on to the greater and more pressing tasks of governance. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
