Cebu billboards safe, says city hall

By Minerva BC Newman

Cebu City (4 October) -- According to the Cebu City Office of Building Officials (OBO) the billboards that are put up in the city are sturdy and safe.

OBO assistant chief, Engr. Josefa Ylanan said, “ We are always monitoring them and we are in constant communication with the officials of the Outdoor Advertising Board (OAB), which is responsible for the safety ug kalig-on sa tanang billboards nga nia sa sulod sa siyudad sa Sugbu.”

Ylanan added, the OBO approves the designs and the aesthetics of each billboard, after the AOB shall have checked whether the designs and structures conform with the specifications and guidelines of the OBO.

“In Manila , the government is still planning to regulate the billboard industry, but here in Cebu , we have done that a long time ago. The Cebu City government and the advertising board have agreed on guidelines and specifications on billboards before they are being put up.”

May Ann Solomon, president of the AOB said, the association is always on its toes and is constantly monitoring the weather through the PAGASA. “In cases of extreme weather conditions, we always instruct our members to remove or tuck the tarpaulins in the billboards, aron dili kaayo mabug-atan and mga structures,” Solomon added.
