Tanauan town voted 2006 most business-friendly municipality in RP
Tacloban City (October 17) -- The Municipality of Tanauan in the province of Leyte has been adjudged as the 2006 Most Business-Friendly Municipality in the Philippines (National Winner) and as an Area Winner for the Visayas.
This was announced by Atty. Miguel B. Varela, Chairman of the 32nd Philippine Business Conference Awards Committee and Ambassador Donald Dee, the President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Tanauan Mayor Roque Tiu will receive the award as Visayas Area Winner from Vice President Noli de Castro on October 19, 2006 during the 7:00 on the evening Gala Dinner which will highlight the Conferment of Area Winners and Special Citations.
On October 20, 2006, Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will present Mayor Roque Tiu the 2006 Most Business-Friendly Municipality of the Philippines during the concluding sessions of the 32nd Philippine Business Conference which will feature the Conferment of National Winners.
When reached Mayor Tiu expressed his appreciation to the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry through its president Mr. Orlando Uy and the PCCI regional governor Engr. Junie Andrade for the faith and trust in endorsing the municipality to the Search for the Most Business-Friendly Municipality.
Mayor Tiu said he is glad of the recognition of the municipality's efforts in minimizing red tapes in government and in streamlining the requirements for business licenses and other transactions in the local government. Renewal of business license takes only one hour the most because only one document, the barangay clearance is required. The other requirements are secured after the license has been issued, Mayor Tiu said. He said that in the Local Government Code, only one document is required, the other documents are the requirements of the other government agencies.
Mayor Tiu added that people transacting business in the local government are accompanied by any staff in order that the client will not spend time finding which office he will transact business with.
Mayor Tiu revealed that he was in Manila on August 9 for the screening of the finalists. He was not really expecting his municipality to win, he said he was contented being nominated and having the chance to learn the good practices of the other municipalities.
The 2006 Most Business-Friendly Award is not only an honor but a challenge and inspiration to the local government staff and officials to continue working hand in hand in the spirit of camaraderie, cooperation and good public service, Mayor Tiu said. (PIA) [top]
