Leyte anchors cooperative month culminating activity

Tacloban City (October 24) -- As has been the tradition, the Leyte Provincial Cooperative Development Council shall anchor the Cooperative Month Culminating Activity on October 27, 2006.

Ms. Emilia Cruz, Leyte PCDC Chairperson informed that the Culmination Program will be held at the Tacloban Convention Center in Tacloban City from 8:00 o’clock in the morning until evening.

The culminating activities will revolve around this year’s Cooperative Month theme: “Cooperatives Making a Real Difference: Bansang Nagkakaisa… May Pusong Kooperatiba.”

Ms. Cruz informed that a motorcade will be conducted along the city’s major thoroughfares in order to drumbeat the people’s awareness on the cooperative movement. The motorcade will be participated in by the various cooperatives all over the province.

To make the culminating activity more significant and worthwhile for the cooperative members, included among the activities which will be conducted on October 27 are the microfinance entrepreneurial forum, recognition of outstanding cooperatives and partner-stakeholders and a Coop Info and Business Center, among others.

Ms. Cruz emphasized that these kinds of activities are some ways of promoting cooperativism in Region 8. She said that the Council wish to strengthen this advocacy by holding a press conference during the said occasion, with the coordination and assistance of PIA.

Ms. Cruz is enjoining all the various cooperatives all over the Region to participate in the Cooperative Month Culminating Activity in order to show their support and cooperation to the cooperative movement.

Cooperatives are seen as poverty alleviation measures and encourage the pooling of resources in order to engage in a business which alone, an individual cannot possibly do on his own.

The Region is proud to have produced several successful cooperatives which now enjoys big capitals and assets. (PIA 8) [top]
