Cagayan telephone exec vows to replace lost wires
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (26 October) -- An official of Digitel Telephone Company in the region recently vowed to rehabilitate lost cable wires in the province following the arrest of suspected copper wire thieves Monday (October 23) by police authorities.
Engr. Peter Dumelod, Digitel regional manager said he would immediately cause the repair of telephone lines in some parts of the province to provide communication for their customers.
"We will immediately repair these lines because of the arrest of the suspected group of thieves. This is a breakthrough in our quest for going after these individuals," Dumelod said.
Police authorities on Monday caught at least two suspected thieves of copper wires near a river in barangay Bagahabag in Solano town with the help of village officials. The two whose identities have not been disclosed due to the on-going investigation were caught burning the materials before selling them.
Earlier, Dumelod expressed disgust over the series of copper wire theft incidents from January to September this year which caused the company P4.1 million in revenue loses and equipment.
Copper wires are sold from P500.00 to 600.00 in various junk shops in Metro Manila, according to Dumelod.
With the continuing theft incidents, the telephone exec also warned that they would no longer restore the areas where the telephone cables were cut and appealed for the assistance of the villagers in going after the thieves. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
