Bayabas town holds 2nd Gakit festival

TANDAG, SURIGAO DEL SUR (November 22) -- The second Gakit Festival, a new-born event which will display creatively adorned Gakit or bamboo rafts right in Bayabas waterfront will highlight the 45 years founding anniversary of the Local Government unit (LGU) for this year's 4-day celebration.
In her message, during the competition, Mayor Florecita Garcia-Giron said, the Gakit Festival is their way of paying tribute to the goodness of the sea, the land, the culture, the people and God.
All the seven barangays in the area competed for the best Gakit display.
Barangay Cabugo grabbed the 1st grabbed the 1st place and got a cash prize of P7,000.00 at the end of the competition.
Second place went to Barangay Magobawok and bagged P5,000.
Barangay Balete, on the other hand got a cash prize pf P3,000 for winning the third palce.
Consolation prozes went to barangays la paz, Amag, Cagbaoto and Panawsawon. The non-winning entries got a consolation prize pf P2,000, each.
This year's board of judges was composed of Lamb Plarisan, prime Oyan and Nicolas Sonsona.
Other activities in the 4-day celebrations were Cheer Dance Competition, mardi Gras, Basketball Tournament, Tigum Bayabasnon, and Binibining Bayabas Beauty Pageant 2006. (PIA-Surigao del Sur) [top]
