Biliran elderly citizens to attend provincial congress

Naval, Biliran (28 November) -- The elderly citizens in Biliran province who are members of the Senior Citizens Association (SENCA) in their respective municipalities and in the barangays are looking forward to a big activity they will be attending which is the Provincial Elderly Congress on December 14 this year at the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) in Naval, the capital town of the province.
This was revealed by Miss Flordeliza Trani, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer of Biliran province in an interview with PIA.
She said that the congress is aimed at enhancing the social and individual self of the participants even at the twilight of their lives as residents of this province.
She said further that at least 5 leaders of senior citizens association in each of the 132 barangays provincewide will be joining the congress.
The highlight of the activities of the day-long elderly congress is the cultural show where the participant will show off their skills, talents and abilities in vocal solo, folk dancing, ballroom dancing, chorus and solo guitar.
She added that the search for Lola 2006 will likewise form part of the highlights of the evening affair of the congress saying that the contestants will be judged according to their beauty and brain. The candidates will each represent the eight municipalities of the province.
The day's activity will be started with the registration of participants and this will be followed by a holy mass.
To reinvigorate the participants and set the proper tone to their involvement in the various activities lined-up for the day aside from making their attendance to the congress more memorable and meaningful, the elderly will be joining in some parlor games. Likewise, they will be attending lectures on how to keep a healthy lifestyle and feel young although physically they are already old.
Furthermore, she said that in this activity, the provincial government of Biliran through Gov. Rogelio J. Espina will provinde financial assistance to each of the senior citizens group in every barangay to cover expenses for transportation and other incidental expenses.
The Provincial Elderly congress is jointly sponsored by the provincial government of Biliran throught Gov. Espina and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) through Ms. Trani in coordination with the chief executives of the eight municipalities of the province. (PIA) [top]
