Baklas Poster Team expected in Catbalogan

Catbalogan, Samar (April 17) -- To discourage the wanton violation of posters and other campaign materials, a Baklas Poster Team from the Provincial Office of the COMELEC with the PNPO and other law enforcement agencies will soon operate in Samar’s capital town.
This was confirmed by Catbalogan COMELEC Assistant Flordeliza Yu in a talk with media men, this morning as election fever slowly reaches its peak.
Yu said that the team will be scouring the whole of Samar to remove campaign materials pasted just about everywhere. The shedding, scraping and scuffing have started in Basey, Yu added.
In the early days of the campaign period, COMELEC Regional Director Adolfo Ibañez said that the directive on posters aims to accommodate all the national and local candidates as well as party-list groups.
Director Ibañez added that the posting of campaign materials in public places outside of the designated common poster areas such as streets, bridges, public structure or buildings, trees, electric posts or wires, schools and shrines is prohibited.
Travelers have observed that political posters are tucked on the trees along the highways in almost all places within the country.
He forewarned the candidates to remind their followers and supporters to strictly observe the Comelec Resolution No. 7767 on the use of common poster areas. These areas are in public places like the plaza, market and barangay centers.
The candidates may also display posters in front of their homes, their business, their headquarters and in their relatives’ homes.
Violation of the COMELEC directive, however may become a ground for the candidate’s disqualification. (PIA-Samar) [top]
