DOST-10 lists new scholars

Cagayan de Oro City (17 April) -- More than 150 incoming DOST scholars for this year are from Region 10. They are among the 2,510 successful examinees from out of the 17,118 applicants who took the national competitive examination held last December 4, 2006.

Expectedly, these successful examinees are to take a four- or five-year course in priority field of study related to science and technology from any DOST-accredited college or university in the country.

As DOST scholars, they will enjoy free tuition and other school fees; monthly allowance; allowance for prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies; outright grant for prescribed military science/PE uniform (first year only); free transportation for one economy-class round-trip fare between the scholarís permanent residence and place of study; group health and accident insurance.

The new batch of DOST scholars from Region 10 are requested to report to the DOST regional office located at Carmen (near City Hospital) any day starting April 17-19, 2007 for the orientation and signing of the scholarship agreement.

They should be accompanied by any of their parents, but preferably, the father, or in the absence of the parent, their guardian.

They should bring with them the following: 2007 Community Tax Certificate of Parent (for guardian, a notarized affidavit of guardianship or special power of attorney is needed); four pieces 1x1 recent and identical picture; P100 for scholarship agreement notarization fee; and documentary stamp.

Qualifiers who could not accept the scholarship grant for some reasons should notify the DOST office in writing as soon as possible. This is to ensure that the limited slots are fully filled in.

For further details, please visit the following websites: www.sei.dost.gov.ph; www.science-scholarships.ph; http://region10.dost.gov.ph or call the DOST regional office at telephone number 858-67.90.
