AMORE energizes 12,000 households in 400 villages

Koronadal, South Cotabato (26 April) -- The AMORE Program promotes sustainable electrification of 12,000 households in 400 villages located in conflict areas in Mindanao.

These villages which cannot be connected to the power grid, using stand-alone solar and microhydro power contribute to the national effort towards total barangay electrification in 2008.

Using the natural resources available in the targeted areas, the AMORE Program provides 20 wp and 50 wp solar home systems identified beneficiaries in the selected barangays.

In some cases where water flow is viable, microhydro power systems, ranging from 7 wp to 45 wp, are constructed to bring electricity to each household all day and throughout the night.

These solar energy and village hydro-electricity options deliver to the villages streetlights, community center lighting and mini-theaters, schools electrification for distance education, small agree-processing services and information and telecommunication facilities. (AMORE/MCD/PIA 12) [top]
