Bacolod urges health clinics to join Guinness simultaneous breastfeeding
Negros Occ. (28 April) -- The Provincial Health Office (PHO) here is encouraging Municipal and City Health Offices to join the bid of the country to qualify for the Guinness Record on Simultaneous Breasfeeding in Multiple Sites.
PHO Head of the Technical Division Dr. Jessica G. Fama said the event will be held on May 2 at 10:00am at participating centers which could be DSWD Day Care Centers, churches, hospitals and private institution.
The Philippines broke the world record of most number of mothers simultaneously breastfeeding their babies last year where 3,541 mother and child joined the affair at San Andres Sports Complex.
The previous world record holder was set at Berkeley, California, USA in 2002 where 1,130 mothers simultaneously breastfeed their babies.
Among the goals of the program is to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first few months of the child's life and continue breastfeeding beyond two years.
It also aims to promote consumption of indigenous foods for complementary feeding and to revive the Filipino indigenous practice that sustains breastfeeding in the past.
