Roxas City (29 May) -- Health officials in Capiz are stepping up their efforts in conducting awareness campaign in preparation for the onset of the rainy season and school opening this June.
According to Dr. Elmer Bucayan, Department of Health (DOH) representative in Capiz, in line with national declaration of June as dengue awareness month, a series of advocacy activities are being lined up.
Bucayan explained that said activity is in partnership with the local government units, particularly the various local rural health units, the church and the Department of Education.
He added that June has also been declared as National Kidney Month as well as No-Smoking Month.
Initially, they will conduct a urinalysis of selected grade school children in two sample schools in Roxas City as part of their kidney month awareness campaign, Bucayan said.
He said that kidney problem is prevalent among school-age children, particularly those who are infected with skin diseases.
On the other hand, records from the Provincial Health Office of Capiz disclosed that there were only about 11 dengue cases in the province from January to April 20 this year.
Said report further shows that last year, the province has only registered a total of 55 dengue cases. (PIA) [top]
