San Fernando City, La Union (29 May) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) will launch a food caravan come June 1 to showcase abundancy of food supplies with its theme "Kasaganaang Abot-Kaya."
DA is preparing some interventions to address possible increase of vegetables and meat this coming rainy season as a reaction to a possible increase in the price of oil.
According to Maribel Cabradilla, Officer-in-charge, Agri-business and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), Da-Regional Office 1, this caravan aims to show an abundant supply of goods to be delivered to Manila via a direct trading.
A direct buying and selling of these agricultural goods, avoiding middlemen, is a good sign of reduced/affordable prices to be imposed for consumers.
Cabradilla explained that this caravan will be participated in by the DA, Local Government Units (LGUs), farmers, coordinators, and suppliers from the different regions.
For region 1 and CAR participants, they will meet at Villasis, Pangasinan as a starting point, converge at North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to meet Regions II & III before proceeding to Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City where they will be meet by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and DA Secretary Arthur Yap, Cabradilla added.
Yap is meeting all the traders from the different regions to caution them against abusing or using the oil price increase as an excuse to excessively increase prices of agricultural products. (PIA La Union) [top]
