DOT holds Tacloban's 31st Subiran Regatta competition

Tacloban City, Leyte (7 June) -- As part of the yearly Tacloban Fiesta Celebration, the Department of Tourism (DOT), regional office 8 will hold its 31st Subiran Regatta competition last week of June along the scenic waters of Cancabato Bay.
A boast to region 8's tourism attraction, Subiran Regatta is an indigenous marine sports among the Eastern Visayan fisherfolks who usually uses the Subiran, a native outrigger to indulge in their fishing activities for their livelihood. It is still noted that up to this day fishing is still a major industry in this part of the country.
The competition will give the general public an opportunity to watch on how the fishermen will exhibit their mastery and skills in maneuvering their attractive and colorful subiran craft in sailing and steering them along Cancabato bay through sailboat racing and ending at the finish line at the Family Park in Magsaysay Boulevard.
In an interview with DOT-8 Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes before she left for a seminar in Beijing China, she encourages all regatta enthusiast to join the competition as it will not only help them win the race but as well will help promote our regions tourist attraction. Cash prizes and trophies awaits would be winners of the contest.
Regatta and sports competitors interested in joining the race , may get a Free registration forms at the DOT regional office located at the G/F Foundation Plaza Bldg., Leyte Park Resort Compound, Magsaysay Boulevard or at the Office of Congresswomen Remedios L. Petilla at Leyte SMED Center, Capitol Grounds, Tacloban City.
