Cagayan North hosts closing activities for national heritage month

Tuguegarao City (June 15) -- Cagayan North, the Philippine's Top Destination, hosted the culminating activities of the National Heritage Month celebration, June 11-13, 2007 with the theme "The Tradition of Bamboos."

Carol Pobre, project coordinator of the Cagayan Provincial Culture, Arts and Tourism said the province was selected to raise the consciousness of Cagayanos on its rich cultural and natural heritage and at the same time cultivate and conserve them for future generations.

National delegates from the Filipino Heritage Festival, Inc. and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and other guests visited heritage sites in Peņablanca for its archeological and cultural heritage; Iguig for its pottery making tradition; Lal-lo, used to be the Ciudad de Nueva Segovia and one of the first four cities in the Philippines.

Camalanuigan for its oldest bell in the country and well-preserved horno or Spanish brick-kiln and Tuguegarao City, the province's capital and seat of government and education in Cagayan.

The visitors were likewise treated to view photo exhibits, cultural shows featuring dances, drama and songs, food tasting of native delicacies and a Latin mass at the Basilica Minore in Piat, Cagayan with the Koro Cagayano.

The National Heritage Month celebration was enacted under Proclamation Order No. 439 by pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on August 2003. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
