PICPA Tacloban joins nationwide accountancy week celebration

Tacloban City (19 July) -- The Philippine Institute of Certified Accounts, Inc. (PICPA) Tacloban Chapter joins with other PICPA Chapters and Certified Public Accountants (CPA) in the entire country in celebrating its 41st Accountancy Week Celebration which started last July 15 and ending July 21, 2007.

According to PICPA National Director Romeo Francisco, during the Express It At The Park (EIATP) press conference held recently at Leyte Park Hotel, Accountancy Week is being celebrated yearly every 3rd week of July after then Pres. Corazon Aquino issued Presidential Decree No. 607 of July 2, 1990 declaring said days as the week of accountancy.

In Tacloban City, PICPA Tacloban Chapter spearheaded the activities joined together by the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants and CPAs from the government and private sectors as well.

With its theme: "Synergy 4 Values", the celebration kicked off with an early morning health and wellness walk last July 15, followed by a Holy Mass at Sto. Niņo Church, motorcade around the city, tree planting, PICPA Family Day lunch, launching of PICPA's 45th Anniversary, raffle, technical sessions on Productivity & Quality Program for Accountancy Profession and basketball tournament.

New elect PICPA Tacloban President Renato Limsiaco, Jr., one of the guest of the presscon also said that the weeklong celebration were categorized into four sectors to highlight each day activities.

Education day sector emphasized the Machica Audit Challenge and the CPA Mock Board Exam competition among the five accountancy schools in the city namely the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), Asian Development Foundation College, ABE Business International School, St. Paul's Business School and the University of the Philippines-Visayas-UPV Tacloban Campus.

Meanwhile, the public sector day did it with technical sessions and seminars on Enhancing FS preparation in accordance with Security Exchange Commission (SEC) and Updates on Regulatory Matters.

While the government sector day were spent on technical sessions and orientation on Forensic Accounting and Updates on Republic Act 9184 otherwise known as the Government Procurement Act.

The Commerce & Industry sector day, on the other hand, celebrated it with technical sessions on Tax Avoidance VS Tax Evasion, BIR Tax Updates, Internal Control: A Key to Business Success tapping CPAs and Non-CPAs participants.

All technical sessions and seminars offered during the weeklong accountancy celebration, PICPA Tacloban President Limsiaco said, has earned CPE Units for the CPA and non-CPA participants at reasonable cost. And the trainings they attended will likewise enhance CPAs competency, he further said.

This years "Synergy 4 value" calls for all CPAs, institutions and the 4 sectors (education, public, government and commerce & industry) to synergize all together to arrive into a common goal of uplifting the accountancy profession competitive globally which will make every Filipino proud of.

PICPA-Tacloban Chapter has 490 CPA members, 172 of which came from the government, 161 from commerce & industry, 28 from public practice, 40 from the education sector and 89 belonging to no sector. It's a globally recognized integrated national organization of Filipino CPAs. Founded in November 1929 with chapters locally and internationally. It's an active member of the Asean Federation of Accountants (AFA), International Federation of Accountants (AFAC), International Accounting Standards of Committee (IASC), and Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA).
