CFO conducts community education on migration in Region 8
Tacloban City (September 12) -- The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) announced the conduct of community education program on migration in Region 8 particularly in the provinces of Northern Samar and Southern Leyte from September 24 to October 2, 2007.
Miss Jennifer Gonzales, the acting Executive Director informed that this inter-agency community education and information campaign seeks to assist prospective migrants in making informed decisions regarding settlement abroad.
It also hopes to generate community involvement in migration concerns and to raise public awareness on various issues concerning migration, intermarriages and existing government policies and programs directed against illegal recruitment, documentation fraud and human trafficking, among others.
Miss Gonzales revealed that the Commission plans to reach out to the public in the municipalities, cities and provinces through the conduct of school symposia on migration, public assemblies, radio interviews and interaction with community members.
She added that the Commission has requested the Philippine Information Agency in the Region to arrange media activities like radio interview and press briefing in Catarman on September 24 and 25 respectively; radio interview in Allen, Northern Samar on September 26; Press Briefing and Radio Interview in Maasin City on September 28 and 29; and Radio Interview in Macrohon, Southern Leyte on September 30, 2007.
The Commission, Miss Gonzales informed, has already coordinated with the local chief executives regarding the planned activities which will be coordinated by Mr. Manny Tibe and Mr. Allan Paul Ducusin of the Commission.
The Commission will also have coordinative meeting with POEA, OWWA and DFA, make courtesy calls on the Provincial Governors and mayors, Pulong-pulong with provincial officials, PESO, law enforcement officers, MSWD and Local Civil Registrar, school symposium, ngo symposium and meeting with church parishioners.
The Commission on Filipinos Overseas is an agency of the Philippine Government which was established on 16 June 1980 through the enactment of Batas Pambansa (Republic Act) 79 to promote and uphold the interests and well-being of Filipinos Overseas.
The CFO is tasked to provide assistance to the President and the Congress of the Philippines in the formulation of policies and measures concerning or affecting Filipinos overseas; develop and implement programmes to promote the interest and well-being of Filipinos overseas; serve as a forum for preserving and enhancing the social, economic, and cultural ties of Filipinos overseas with the motherland; and provide liaison services to Filipinos overseas with appropriate government and private agencies in the transaction of business and similar ventures in the Philippines.
