Oro Youth Center empowers 80% of youth in public schools
Cagayan de Oro City (4 October) -- IN its aim to prepare the youth in Cagayan de Oro City on the different issues confronting the adolescents, especially those in the hinterland barangays, the Oro Youth Center (OYC) of the city government has organized 80 percent of the population and development clubs in public secondary schools in the city.
Ma. Lina Maagad, OYC coordinator, said that part of the OYC campaign is to advocate on issues confronting the adolescents like substance abuse and sexual relationships for them to be ready when they themselves are confronted by the said issues.
Maagad said that they have organized all the public high schools in the hinterland barangays and some of the urban barangays through a close coordination with Leo Salvaņa, the social science supervisor of the City Schools Division.
She added that the Oro Youth Center hoped to organize the PopDev Club in all public secondary schools in the city before the end of the current school year.
Through the PopDev Club, OYC will conduct a series of learning sessions among the graduating high school students for them to have knowledge on the issues that would confront them in college or in their daily struggles. (Cagayan de Oro City IO/PIA-MisOrOccCam i-Net) [top]
