Daet, Camarines Norte (10 October) -- Barangay Batobalani in Paracale town and Plaridel in Jose Panganiban are target barangays in this province, chosen as the pilot area under the project "Establishment of a system for local level assessment and monitoring of the nutritional status of children".
This was bared by Corazon M. Cerdena of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute-Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST) during the 5-day project training held here September 25-29, that was attended by barangay nutrition scholars, members of the barangay development council of the said local government units and the members of Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC).
Cerdena said that the general objective of the project is to establish a system in the conduct of nutrition survey as the community level for LGUs in nutrition planning and monitoring of nutritional status.
The barangay nutrition scholars and the members of the barangay development council will serve as enumerators of the research survey in the said barangays to more than 1,000 respondents and will use scientific method in the measurement of height and weight.
The research survey will determine the current feeding practices of children 0-23 months; the household food security or access by all people at all times to enough food for an active and health life; the government intervention programs to children, pregnant women and lactating women; and environmental sanitation.
The PNC will do the data encoding, organization, processing and analysis through the e-nutrition web template and the FNRI and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of said LGUs will do the data presentation for nutrition situation report and nutrition action plan.
Cerdena said that the establishment of localized system will benefit local policy makers because the generated data would also be useful in updating/developing nutritional plans and projects to be implemented in the municipalities and barangays. (PIA Cams. Norte) [top]
