Philhealth holds Koronadal forum
Koronadal City (12 October) -- At least 93 representatives from different Local Government Units regionwide joined Philhealth's forum at Marvella Plaza Hotel, City of Koronadal last October 9, 2007.
Record of the National Statistics and Coordination Board 2003 shows that poverty incidence for Region 12 is 32%. Out of this, only 23% poorest of the poor is covered by Philhealth. With an estimated 65,000 indigent sponsored families registered to date, there is a need to enroll more.
"Annual sponsorship of indigent families entails a lot of resources allocation. Innovation, maximum community participation and pooling of funds thru local and national partnership involving barangays, municipalities, cities, provinces, legislators, private sponsors and others are needed. These are some of the principles that may be applied to sustain the implementation of the program," said Atty. Reynaldo Capangpagnan, First Vice President for Philhealth Mindanao Area.
"The Cotabato Health Insurance Program (CHIP) authored by ex Gov. Emmanuel Piņol now implemented in North Cotabato was featured as the best practice for Social Health Insurance advocacy," AVP Ramon F. Aristoza added.
"After all as a health care financing institution, Philhealth will serve as co-payor of the premium at the same time provide not only benefit packages to the recipients but also capitation fund for the accredited health care providers for services augmentation," he further said.
With the government's support, it is the corporation's vision that 15 years after Indigent Program's implementation, at least 80% indigents will be covered in the program. (hanah-PhilHealth12/PIA 12) [top]
