LAGAWE, Ifugao (20 October) -- To develop the technical and vocational skills of students and help them practice these skills to improve their lives, the Department of Education (DepEd) Ifugao Division conducted its annual Student Technological and Entrepreneur Program (STEP).
The STEP Focuses on technical- vocational skills competition appropriate to elementary and high school students. It also includes a wide range of technical- vocational entrepreneurial skills that could be applied by the students when they decide to engage in business in the future.
School Division Superintendent Estella Carino said that with these trainings they can "improve their skills and apply their learning".
"While part of government revenue collections sustain our economy, as most of our workforce apply in the international job markets, the training given to the students at this early stage in their lives coupled with their desire to undergo trainings in government and private institutions will prepare them to be competent workers in the future," she added.
As observed, the cause for the low pay for some Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) is low quality of service because they lack the skills. Possessing quality standards of skills competency will surely give them greater opportunity of employment, Carino said.
This year's theme: is "Upgrading Skills, Improving Lives". (PIA Ifugao) [top]
