Central Luzon's math wizards are from Bataan

By Gilda V. Llames

Balanga, Bataan (26 October) -- Five engineering students from Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU)-Main Campus romped off with the coveted title "Math Wizards" in the recently concluded 3rd Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) regional student conference held at the main office of Penelco in Balanga City.

Two members of Team BPSU are scholars of the Department of Science and Technology, according to Rosalie V. Ona, chief of the DOST in Bataan.

The DOST scholars are Ar-Jay S. Reyes and Val Buenaventura, 3rd year and 4th year, respectively; both taking up BS Electrical Engineering.

Other members of the team are: Teddy Recuerdo, Nino Isidro and Robin Perdio.

The team, Ona said, received prizes of P2,500 in cash, a trophy for their school and a medal for each team member.

The team's mathematical prowess and academic competitiveness will again be tested as they advance to the national level of the contest, scheduled November 6-7, 2007 at SM Mall of Asia.

The competition, Ona pointed out, is a yearly event spearheaded by the IIEE. (PIA-Bataan) [top]
