DILG chief to barangay folks: Go out and vote for "makaDios, makakalikasan, makabayan, makatao, may dignidad"

Catbalogan City (October 27) -- Samar's Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Jovito Lacaba urged rural folks to go out and vote on October 29 for one who is maka Dios (Godly), makakalikasan (environment friendly) Makabayan (nationalistic), makatao (pro-humans) and may dignidad (dignified).
Lacaba has made the rounds of TV and radio in Samar's two cities, Calbayog and Catbalogan to air his department's advocacy.
Aside from appearing on TV and radio, each municipality was also given a tarpaulin announcing the five m's of a prospective official.
Lacaba also frowns on unopposed candidates saying the practice is defeating the real purpose of 'choice'. The voter should be able to choose and if there is only one candidate, one is not really given that much choice.
In Catbalogan City, some seven barangays have only one candidate for Punong Barangay (PB) and five barangays with only a single Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman bet.
In addition, Lacaba also appealed to the voting populace to choose someone with a better academic background. He said it is not enough that a barangay official knows to read and write; he must be able to comprehend terms in rural governance and is able to communicate.
In the latest COMELEC registry in Samar, some 411,115 registered voters are scheduled to go out and vote on October 29, 2007 one PB and seven Kagawad.
As to peace an order, Lacaba said his office has monitored election-related violent incidents in Villareal where a barangay candidate was killed, in one Motiong barangay where four barangay officials died in an ambush and a sketchy report in another barangay in Sta. Rita.
As to the latest report from Catbalogan City where a PB candidate Roque Pagliawan from Barangay Lagundi was gunned down, DILG ruled this out as non election related incident. (PIA-Samar) [top]
