Roxas City (31 October) -- A Capiz town mayor vowed to revive their annual "Pinaka" competition to showcase the best agricultural products in his community.
Mayor Roger of Flores of Cuartero, Capiz said that through said competition, the barangay people in their area are given the chance not only to showcase their agricultural products but also are given recognition by the local government unit for helping the government in addressing the agricultural needs of the public.
The agricultural products fair during their town's annual "Agdahanay" festival every June 13 explains the bountiful harvests of Cuarteronhons, Flores said, adding that the festival is also their time to thank God for all the bounty they received from the fertile agricultural land.
During the recent AgriLink/AquaLink/FoodLink celebration held at the World Trade Center in Metro Manila, Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap has emphasized that the future of the country lies in agriculture.
Among the activities during said celebration are the O! May Gulay Cooking Contest and the PINAKA-Best agricultural products.
This year's PINAKA best agricultural products of crop and fishery commodities showcase the bountiful harvests from rich and fertile soils and water resources of the different regions of the country.
Yap pointed out agriculture must play an important role in making the commodities abundant and sustainable to address the nutritional requirements of the people in the rural areas and metropolis.
He also urged the public to get involved and be productive for a healthier and wealthier Philippines should we want to have a steady supply of agricultural products. (PIA) [top]
