JICA-Saporo welcomes RP delegates to 2007 Training Programme for Young Leaders

SAPPORO, HOKKAIDO JAPAN (November 19) -- Top officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) welcomed the 17-Philippine delegates to the 2007 Training Programme for Young Leaders, during the opening ceremony conducted recently at the JICA International Center here.
Among the JICA officials that welcomed the delegates were Kiyoshi Ishii as the Team Director; Hideki Kato, JICA Northern Region Center Assistant Manager; and JICA Program Officer Masahito Sugiyama.
In his speech, Dir. Ishii pointed out the role of the delegates in developing the country through Information Technology. "You are here with a purpose. Out of how many applicants in the Philippines, the 17 of you passed the standards set by JICA and Department of Foreign Affairs in your country. So, take this opportunity not only for your own personal development, but as well as for the interest of your country", Dir. Ishii said.
Also, Mr. Hideki Kato reminded the delegates to take care of their health especially that the training falls at the start of the winter season in Japan where snowfalls started to pour in the country. "My dear delegates, you should also bear in mind that your health is one of the priorities of JICA. To take care of it so that you cannot only actively participate in the trainings and discussions, but you will also enjoy your 18-day stay here in Saporro", he said.
Moreover, Mr. Sugiyama, briefed the participants on the activities to be undertaken during the whole duration of the training programme. He also reminded the participants the importance of punctuality and time management which is one of the commendable traits of the Japanese. "Time here in Japan is very important. It is like a priceless jewel. Therefore, you should also be time-conscious because of you do so, you are respecting other's time", he said.
Today, the Philippine delegates will pay courtesy call to Mr. Fukui, Director-General of Economic Affairs Bureau of the City Government of Sapporo. They will also visit some establishments in the city where Information Technology is adopted. Some of these include the IT Division of the City Government of Sapporo, and the Sapporo Municipal Fire Station. (PIA-13) [top]
