PGMA appoints 2 DPWH undersecretaries
Manila (13 January) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has two new undersecrataries recently appointed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
DPWH Assistant Secretaries Rafael C. Yabut and Ramon P. Aquino will take their oath of office on Monday (Jan. 14).
Serving the department for 33 years, Yabut supervises the "Operation Baklas Billboards" of the DPWH and cleared the national roads of Pampanga of illegal structures and obstructions when he was still a district engineer of Pampanga First District Engineering Office.
Yabut was appointed Assistant Secretary in 2003, he was the youngest among the DPWH Executive Committee.
He was born in Pampanga and started to work at the DPWH-Angeles in 1975 as a laborer and completed his civil engineering course as a working student and as a band member playing clarinet and saxophone at the Angeles University Foundation in 1976.
Yabut is an active member of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Association of Government Civil Engineers of the Philippines, Road Engineering Association of the Philippines and now the Vice-President of the American Society of Civil Engineers-Philippine Group.
On the other hand, Aquino was commended by the local officials in Central Luzon as he personally supervised road clearing, maintenance and monitoring activities along damaged infrastructure even at the height of typhoon Milenyo and Reming when he was the DPWH Region 3 Director.
Born in San Fernando, La Union, Aquino has served the department for 31 years starting as a civil engineering aide in 1977 and became an Assistant Secretary and Chief of Staff of DPWH Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. last year.
