BIR Eastern Samar collects more taxes

Borongan City (4 February) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here reported that they have a better story to tell, that is, they overshoot their target.
This was learned from Engineer Rolly Espina, Revenue District Officer for Eastern Samar.
Espina estimated some P171M target for 2007 but the current running total, he said is now P182.174M or an increased collection of 6.12% which is translated to P10.5M more of its target.
In comparison with 2006's, the Officer said there was only a P155.3M collection which was likewise derived from Income Taxes, Value Added Tax(VAT), Excise Tax, Percentage Tax and others.
He credits the big increase performance to the top five contributors to the Districts Collection which are: Borongan with P122.1M, Guiuan-P12.4M, Dolores-P6.8M, San Julian-P4.4M and Llorente-P4M.
Espina was happy to note that the paying publics have eventually changed their behavior in paying their taxes because they have been complying religiously add to it the enforcement strategies, the tax mapping operation, audit of business tax payers, the collection of delinquent accounts and the strict monitoring of government withholding agents.
The BIR Chief likewise expressed appreciation to all his revenue personnel for showing their collective efforts, their expertise in the tax administration through positive work habits, commitment and teamwork in achieving the Bureau's mission.
Likewise, he thanked the Local Chief Executives, the NGAs, state colleges and universities as withholding agents even the ordinary taxpayers for the support to the 2007 collection.
His appeal for 2008 remains to be so, in order to reach and overshoot even more their P216M target of an 18.67% increase than 2007's. (PIA-Eastern Samar) [top]
