NVizcaya solon sees reform in congress with Nograles as speaker

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (February 8) -- Representative Carlos Padilla here expressed optimism Wednesday that the recent elevation of Davao City Representative Propsero Nograles would bring about possible change in the House of Representatives which would redound to the benefit of Filipinos in the country.

"This will depend on his support to our proposals which we in the reform bloc have been pushing since the term of former Speaker Jose De Venecia," Padilla in a statement over DWRV radio station here said.

Padilla who voted in favor for the declaration of the speakership position vacant Monday(February 4) said they have already made informal talks within the 35-40 member reform bloc.

According to Padilla, they have agreed to support Nograles to know if there will be some changes, specially on their proposals which are meant to cut down expenses in the operationalization of the House of Representatives.

"We have already talked to remind the speaker about our proposals. There might be something that will happen. We will attempt to push these but there is no guarantee that we will get the support of the majority," he explained.

Padilla said that included in their proposals were the reduction of committees in congress which eats up at least P10 million a year for its operationalization and the official travels of representatives.

"If these proposals will be given proper action, then savings from it will be brought down to our constituents in the form of projects which will benefit the majority of Filipinos," he stressed. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
