CIIF grants Mlang P1.9 million fund for coconut nursery

Mlang, North Cotabato (11 February) -- This municipality has received P250,000 out of the approved P1.9 million fund from the Coconut Industry Investment Fund (CIIF) for the land preparation of a coconut nursery of the town.

In his weekly radio program, "Abyan sa Kalambuan Sang Mlang" aired over DXND – Kidapawan City every Thursday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM, Mlang Mayor Joselito Piñol disclosed that 100,000 coconut seedlings will be planted in the P1.9 million coconut nursery which will serve not only Mlang but the neighboring town of Tulunan.

Mayor Piñol said that aside from the coconut nursery fund, CIIF will also release after two years P5 million intended for intercropping to augment the income of coconut farmers. He said the amount will likewise finance the purchase of inputs such as insecticide.

Mlang will soon start off the construction of a P10 million multi-purpose project for the coconut mechanical dryer and bricks factory utilizing coconut waste materials, Piñol continued.

Another essential project that Mlang will implement according to the Mayor, is the P500,000 livelihood training for the informal sector on driftwoods and bamboo craft-making. The release of the support fund was facilitated by Undersecretary Arturo Sodusta of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Mayor Piñol pointed out.

The mayor added that the labor department through Undersecretary Sodusta will also facilitate the release of one million pesos of the organized Dole laborers. (OTS/PIA 12) [top]
