Davao City (12 February) -- The P1.59 billion road network that aims to connect Regions X and XI through the provinces of Davao del Norte and Bukidnon is part of the P200-billion that the Government will invest for infrastructure programs in the whole country.
"This is P1.599 billion of the P200-billion we will spend for infrastructure." President Gloria Macapgal Arroyo said during the groundbreaking rites for the 57.7 kilometer Kapalong-Talaingod Boundary-Valencia Bukidnon Secondary Road.
"This is part of our infrastructure surge." the President said during a very short message during the project briefing during the groundbreaking ceremony held last Friday (February 8) in Kapalong.
According to Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Rafael Yabut, who is tasked to oversee the road project, the 57.74 kilometer road project aims to connect the Pan-Philippine Highway of Region XI to Sayre Highway in Region X.
Divided in 10 contract packages and is hoped to be finished when the President's term ends in 2010. The project involves the improvement/concreting/opening of roads. It also involves the construction of one permanent bridge and the replacement of five bridges into 2-lane bridges. The project also involves the building of a 7-kilometers road that would connect the Talaingod border to Valencia.
In Region X a simultaneous but a bigger infrastructure project is also underway to finally connect the two massive road projects. Pegged at P2.015 billion, the 82-kilometer road network on the Bukidnon side would then connect on the boundaries of Valencia and Talaingod.
All-in-all the all-weather, inter-regional road networks costs around P3.814 billion with a combined length of P140-kilometers. (PIA XI) [top]
