Davao Oriental town to receive P5-M from KALAHI-CIDSS

Tarragona, Davao Oriental (13 February) -- Tarragona Municipal Mayor Samuel L. Uy signified interest to participate in KALAHI-CIDSS Cycle 4 during the recent orientation-consultation with KALAHI-CIDSS regional project coordinator Lina V. Caņedo.

"Dumaan na kami sa tatlong cycle at maganda ang resulta sa community. Talagang i-consider namin na it is an opportunity for the local government units," [We've gone through the three cycles and results were commendable in the community. We definitely consider it as an opportunity for the local government units], Municipal Mayor Uy said.

Dubbed as "Makamasang Tugon," Cycle 4 is an enhanced scheme of KALAHI-CIDSS that will continue to empower people and address their needs through enhanced participation in community projects that reduce poverty.

KALAHI-CIDSS or Kapit-Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services is the Philippine government's flagship poverty reduction project. It is implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, through a loan from World Bank.

A six-year project with a total cost of P9.3B, KALAHI-CIDSS included Tarragona as one of its target municipalities in Region XI. Tarragona's ten barangays have already availed of basic infrastructure projects in their communities in KALAHI's previous cycles.

"May dalawang health centers dito ang naitayo sa third cycle. Meron ding day care centers and water system," [There were two health centers put up during the third cycle. Also constructed were day care centers and water system.] Municipal Mayor Uy said.

Cycle 4, according to Caņedo, is a joint undertaking of DSWD and DILG and has an indicative allocation of 500T per barangay that means another 5M for the municipality of Tarragona.

"In this Cycle 4, the LGU will lead kasi we are Just building on the gains of KALAHI. Nakit-an na mas gwapo ang scheme na ingon ani para makit-an pud ang pagpapel sa LGU," [In this Cycle 4, the LGU will lead as we are just building on the gains of KALAHI. It is a better scheme to witness the LGU's involvement] she added.

The Municipality of Tarragona is yet to submit a legislated form of interest or resolution before the third week of February to formalize its participation in the said cycle. (DSWD/smmmalobago-PIA XI) [top]
