DAR installs East Visayas' 2nd lady provincial chief
Tacloban City (February 13) -- It is still one month before Women's Month, but the women of Region 8 has already a reason to start celebrating, as the Department of Agrarian Reform installed Friday February 8, Elisea Orapa as the new Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer for Southern Leyte.
PARO Orapa who is formerly the chief of the Beneficiaries Department Coordinating Division of DAR Southern Leyte, is the second lady PARO in Eastern Visayas in an officer in charge capacity, DAR Region 8 Information Officer Jose Alsmith Soria disclosed.
Her installation is in consonance with the Special Order No. 21 issued on January 16 by Agrarian Reform Secretary Nasser Pangandaman designating Orapa as the PARO for this province in lieu of Engr. Silverio Gempeson.
Assistant Regional Director Antonio Tan, representing Director Homer Tobias who was in Manila for official business, installed Orapa immediately, upon the instruction of Director Tobias, so as not to hamper the operations of the Agency in the province.
ARD Tan who was accompanied by ARD for Operations Engr. Reynaldo Villas during the installation which was held at Villa Catalina, encouraged all DAR officials and staff in Southern Leyte to give their full support to PARO Orapa in order to realize the Agency's targets.
ARD Villas, on the other hand disclosed that the province's targets on land aquisition and distribution for this year is 1,500 hectares by November.
For her part, PARO Orapa accepted the challenge even as she sought for the support and cooperation of all the DAR Southern Leyte staff, the members of the Provincial Agrarian Reform Coordinating Committee and representatives of the different peoples organizations and non-government organizations in the province who were present during the occasion.
PARO Orapa, a native of Carigara, Leyte, joined DAR in 1982 as Agrarian Reform Technologist. She was promoted as Municipal Agrarian Reform Officer in 1988 and in 1999, she was designated as CARPO for BDCD focusing on the provision of the necessary support services to agrarian reform beneficiaries. She is the 6th PARO to serve the province of Southern Leyte. (PIA 8) [top]
