Negros Oriental to celebrate NDPR week
Dumaguete City (18 July) -- Government organizations in Negros Oriental has extended their full support in celebrating the 30th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) week on July 17-30, 2008 in the province.
The celebration of NDPR week is mandated under Proclamation No. 1870 to stimulate public awareness on issues affecting persons with disabilities.
The weeklong celebration will provide a venue for people with disabilities to share their talents and identify their potentials, said Alicia Lagarde, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer.
The celebration's activities are: July 17 - Radio/TV guestings, July18- Municipal PWD Forum, July 20- Basketball Wheelchair Tournament, July 21 - Flag Raising Ceremony, July 22 - PWD Forum, July 23 - Kapihan sa PIA, July 30 - PWD Culmination.
On July 19 & 20 a Basketball Wheelchair Tournament will be held which is the 2nd Negros Oriental Open Invitational on Wheel and will be participated by the GP Rehab of Misamis Occidental, Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, and Quezon City.
This will be held at the Foundation University Gym starting 9 am to 5 pm with a ticket of P20 per day.
Lagarde said the celebration will culminate on July 30 at the Macias Sports Center. "This time naa nay mga testimonies and reaction from the PWDs and social workers kung unsa'y ilang gibati while having this program, the relationship between the PWD's and the social workers, their learning insights," she said.
"Naay exhibits of the products of their trainings, like the cross-stitch, pots, dagkong silhig made of bamboo, wood carving and flowers made from scratch papers," Lagarde added.
This annual celebration is being spearheaded by the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) through the leadership of its Chairperson, Undersecretary Rosie Lovely T. Romulo, in partnership with the national government agencies and non-government organizations. (PIA NegOr) [top]
