CARP extends solar power technology support in Samar

By Marivic Alcober

Tacloban City (August 19) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region 8 headed by Regional Director Homer Tobias has extended its Solar Power Technology Support (SPOTS), through its Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP,) to three Agrarian Reform Communities (ARC), namely: Calbiga-Pinabacdao Settlement in Samar; Las Navas ARC, and Catubig ARC both in Northern Samar.

According to DAR, SPOTS which is now on its second phase is one of the support services extended under the government's CARP. It aims to bring comfort to the living conditions of agrarian reform beneficiaries, specifically the remote rural areas.

A number of households in Majaba Island and Basiao, both in Samar were overwhelmed when they enjoyed the probationary switching of the SPOTS, which will have its formal switch-on this coming August 22.

It was learned that earlier, only a few signified their willingness to be installed with solar home system package, however, on the actual day of installation to the homes of those who registered, many household signified to be included in said installation.

Unfortunately, supply of materials for installation ran out, hence, several were no longer accommodated.

The recipient, which should be a member of the cooperative in the area that will operate and maintain said project, is required to pay a registration fee of P420 and a monthly due of P220. (PIA-8) [top]
