Feature: Guipos a "show window" at 17
Zamboanga City (7 October) -- Congressman Antonio H. Cerilles proudly claims that at 17, Guipos is one of the "show windows" of the Second District which he represents in Congress.
This he tells in the souvenir program for the 17th Founding Anniversary of the second to the youngest town in Zamboanga del Sur which creation he sponsors along with Tigbao municipality in the 8th Congress.
Former President Corazon C. Aquino signed Republic Act No. 7159 the law creating Guipos on October 7, 1991 and 32 days later followed RA 7162 creating Tigbao municipality. Guipos' birth became dramatically significant to the Congressman as October 7 happens to be his birthday.
Congressman Cerilles has been a dutiful "father" to Guipos. In 1992, when he was Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, he placed the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Guipos. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the 3rd Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Moreover, Guipos is the home of Philippine Army's 53rd Infantry Battalion. The Provincial Carabao Center is also located in Guipos adjacent to the town's bustling tourism destination - the Guipos Cave Resort. Congressman Cerilles appropriated P2-Million from his Congressional Fund for the development of water source of the resort.
Last year, at 16, Guipos opened the P17-Million Public market where the Congressman led its inauguration and unveiled its marker.
For this year, Mayor Francisco N. Oraiz, Jr. disclosed that Congressman Cerilles is giving out P7.5-Million to his town for the construction of the 3-storey municipal hall and another P3.1-Million for the Housing Project of this locality.
With these developments, Cerilles proudly says that Guipos has advanced so immensely from an ordinary town and has boomed to be a very progressive one. (PBB/PIA) [top]
