MILF plans to dissolve its own peace panel - Kabalu
Cotabato City (23 October) -- Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) hierarchy plans to abolish MILF peace panel after the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) were declared by the Supreme Court unsconstitutional.
In an interview with local radio station here, MILF spokesperson Eid Kabalu said that the MILF Central Committee has recommended to dissolve the MILF peace panel because of the government's non-interest in the peace talks.
Kabalu said that most of the MILF leaders have lost confidence in the sincerity of the government, hence, the abolition of GRP-MILF peace panel.
Kabalu said, the MILF leadership will possibly elevate the issue to international organization, but further assured that armed options will be their last resort to achieve peace in Mindanao.
On the part of the Philippine government, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has reiterated her commitment to the peace process. The message is loud and clear that justice takes the precedent to the resumption of the peace dialogue.
The perpetrators of the August atrocities in North Cotabato who have shown wanton disregard the human rights by killing innocent civilians, burning and stealing their properties should be brought before the bar of justice.
The government stays firm with its new policy of disarmament, demobilization and re-integration in consonance with the settlement of the armed conflict in this part of Mindanao.(EBC/CLC/ICC, Kidapawan City) [top]
