Ermita bares new presidential appointments

Manila (6 November) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo appointed Genaro Alvarez III as chairman of the Philippine National Oil Company Alternative Fuels Corp. (PNOC-AFC) and Peter Anthony Abaya as president of PNOC Development and Management Corp. (PNOC-DMC).

Three others were also appointed to government positions.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said that the President signed their appointment papers on separate dates which would take effect upon receipt of their respective appointments.

Alvarez is a former congressman of the 6th district of Negros Occidental (2004-2007).

Ermita also announced the appointment of retired Army Maj. Gen. Rodolfo Tolentino to the board of directors of the PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corporation (PNOC-AFC). "Tolentino would soon be elected as president and chief executive officer of the PNOC-AFC," he said.

Prior to his appointment, Tolentino, was the commanding general of (the Army's) Eastern Mindanao command.

The other new appointees are Jovy C. Bernabe as president of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) under the Department of Agriculture (DA), and Carlos A. Ballelos as city prosecutor of Lipa in Batangas.

Bernabe is a governor for Western Visayas of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).

Meanwhile, Ermita said that the President issued Proclamation No. 1659 declaring Nov. 12, 2008 as special non-working day in Gumaca, Quezon to allow Gumacans to freely and fully celebrate their town's foundation day. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
