Ullalim trade fair produces P1.65-M in sales

by L. Lopez

Tabuk, Kalinga (21 February) -- Highlighting the Ullalim Festival in celebration of the province's 14th founding anniversary, the agro-industrial trade fair this year hauled a record high of P1,653,808 million in sales.

Benita Mangadap of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Kalinga said this year's three-year high figure surpassed last year's P1.385M and that of 2007's P769,833. This could even increase with the booked orders.

Mangadap attributes the high performance of this year's 4-day fair to the sustained support of DTI-Kalinga to local producers whose number of exhibitors soared to 85, compared to the 72, last year.

Because of wide promotion on the event, there were 6 guest-exhibitors from other provinces and 17 new participants who joined the fair. Invitation was also extended to the 8 municipalities, which put-up their booths of agri-base products.

Adding more fun and delight to the fair was the search for special awards in Best Product that went to Praj's Gift Shop for loom-weaving, Elda's Homemade Products for processed foods, Praj's Gift Shop for basketry, RACD Furniture & Wood Mouldings for furniture, Jam's Flower Garden for ornamental plants and LGU-Rizal for Indigenous-recycled product.

The winners under this event were awarded P2,000 cash prize by the Provincial Governor's Office (PGO).

On Best New Product, there were three exhibitors selected namely Kalinga Food Treat with its Unoy pancit canton, Gawidan Farmers Association with its Kalinga Mountain Coffee and Kalinga Wines & Sugar Farmers Association with its basi wine. There winners shared from the P2,000 cash award also from the PGO.

On Best Booth, the 1st Place went to Tabuk Concrete Products of Brian Gamon, 2nd Place to Grand Zion Garden of Aurora Chan and 3rd to Kalinga Indigenous Women's Association (KINWA) of Astrid Aowat. Winners received cash prizes of P3,000; P2,000 and P1,000 respectively also from the PGO.

On Best Booth (municipal level), Lubuagan Municipality won the 1st Place, Rizal got the 2nd Place and Pinukpuk the 3rd Place. Cash prizes in the amounts of P4,000; P3,000 and P2,000 were awarded to the winners by the PGO.

The program committee also distributed cash gifts to lucky buyers in the raffle draws in the amount of P3,000 for the 3 major prices and P2,000 for 10 consolation prizes. The money for the raffle draw was derived from the participation fee of exhibitors. (PIA-Kalinga) [top]
