1st quarter simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill set February 27
Cebu City (23 February) -- Local government units, private and public schools as well as private and government entities are urged to participate in the 1st Quarter Simultaneous Nationwide Earthquake Drill on Friday, February 27 at 8:30 a.m.
The ceremonial venue of the earthquake drill is hosted by Sen. Francisco National High School in Quezon City, a public school.
The simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill is pursuant to the pronouncement and instruction of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo after the 1st nationwide earthquake drill on June 20, 2006 that earthquake drills should be conducted on a quarterly basis and to further expand the participation to government and private offices and establishments.
The objective of the quarterly earthquake drills is to make the public aware of what to do in case an earthquake occurs in order to prevent casualties.
On Friday, a ceremonial pressing of the button will be done at the host school to signal the simultaneous conduct of the earthquake drill.
The simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill is spearheaded by the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) particularly the Office of the Civil Defense, Department of National Defense, Department of Education and Local Government Units.
The NDCC has already sent a memorandum to all concerned so that they can prepare for the participation of all concerned offices and establishments for Friday's simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill. (PIA-Cebu/FCR) [top]
