NKTI doctors wow lake Lakewood
Pagadian City (5 March) -- They were all in awe to view the amazing stillness of the 800-hectare body of water known as "lake Lakewood" as they arrived at the Alindahaw Lakeview Resort in Biswangan, Lakewood, this province after the hard days work for the NKTI medical mission.
A floating hut was so inviting at the bank of the lake for physicians, medical staff along with PIA national and regional officials to ride on it for a cruise. They had fun picture taking.
It was about sunset when the team arrived at the resort where Governor Auring and Congressman Tony Cerilles had waited for them. Dumalinao mayor and president of League of Municipalities Ace Cerilles with his own family joined his parents so with Board Members Baby Funtanilla, Doki Blancia and Erning Mondarte.
Sumptuous seafood, lechon, fruits and dessert were set for the banquet while the Melengas Dance Ensemble showcased their mastery of subanen and moro dances.
This is the Provincial Government's way of expressing gratitude to the NKTI team for the big help they had extended to sick people in Zamboanga del Sur who have operated 27 major cases, 6 medium and 2 minor operation, served and treated 600 out-patients for free at the Zambosur medical center last February 27 and 28.
Head of the medical mission, National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) executive director Enrique T. Ona, for one was overwhelmed to see the posh resort facing the lake.
"I must admit that I am from this province but this is the first time that I ever come to this place. And I am very happy and very pleased to see the province have developed under the leadership of Auring and Tony," Ona said.
Alindahaw Lakeview Resort is an hour ride from Pagadian City.
"Many would say that Tony (Cerilles) is fierce and authoritarian, but I told myself that for the people to respect, there should be a fatherly figure not necessarily authoritarian. Today, there can be seen and can be appreciated. I am surprised how much Zamboanga del Sur has become, meron na kaming ipagyayabang. I myself is proud of my province," Ona litanized.
Nonoy, as Gov. Auring calls him, declared that many members of his team (mostly from Luzon) were hesitant to come over because of bad reports they heard about Mindanao. "Titingnan natin if makauwi pa ba sila bukas," he kidded.
Congressman Cerilles, as host explained to his guests that contrary to what Manila media have described about Mindanao having an unstable peace and order condition, Zamboanga del Sur and other parts of Mindanao are generally peaceful. "Takot kayo pumunta dito dahil sa mga reports na magulo daw ang Mindanao which you yourselves can attest that it is not true."
"We thank you for coming over, sana sa uulitin. Natuwa kami dahil karamihan ng mga kababayan namin especially yong naoperahan walang pamasahe papuntang Manila," the legislator said.
As the guests returned to Hotel Alindahaw in this city, they promised to Gov. Auring to advertise lakeview resort to their family and friends in Manila. (PPB/PIA9-Pagadian) [top]
