PIA Press Release

Kalinga to get P30M for farm-to-market roads

by Peter Balocnit

Tabuk, Kalinga (20 June) -- About P30 million of public funds sourced out from funding agencies is going to benefit the province this year.

According to Governor Floydelia Diasen, the P10M allocation which came from the regular fund of the Department of Agriculture (DA) she initiated went for the improvements of the Cabaruan-Sucbot FMR P2M; Bulanao-Balawag-Suyang P2M; Dilag-San Julian P1.5M, all of Tabuk; Allaguia-Asibanglan P1M and Catabbogan-Wagod P1.5M in Pinukpuk; the Poblacion-Dananao FMR in Tinglayan P0.5M; and San Quintin FMR in Rizal which cost P1 million.

Diasen said she personally followed up with DA Secretary Arthur Yap the approval of the projects. "Because of our good track record in implementing DA-funded project in Kalinga, we were able to get additional assistance from DA," she said in an interview.

"Another P20 million is again proposed to DA for various FMRs in other municipalities of the province," she added optimistic that DA-CAR Director Cesar Rogriguez has endorsed the proposal to Yap.

"If these projects require LGU counterpart, then we will remedy from our meager budget," she stressed adding that the province has nothing to lose from sharing with the burden since the assistance is for our people to attain food security."

Norma Damian, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator said her office is preparing documents and identifying beneficiary barangays for the additional funding assistance. "If approved, it will be distributed to other municipalities needing FMR improvements," she said.

Diasen also informed of another P1 million sourced out from the PDAF of Senator Edgardo Angara for the continuation of the legislative building at Capitol Hills. "The SARO (Special Allotment Release Order) was already released," she said. This will be implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways with a corresponding supplemental memorandum of agreement with the Kalinga Engineering District Office. (PIA-Kalinga) [top]
