Lagawe, Ifugao (17 October) -- The devastations caused by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng in the country prompted the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) here to conduct a refresher course on First aid, search and rescue skills training from October 19 to 23, 2009.
Provincial Disaster Officer Marcela Cortez said that the five day training course seeks to refresh the knowledge of members of the PDCC on first aid, search and rescue skills.
She added that this activity will also improve their way of responding to calamities.
"Ifugao was spared in the onslaught of typhoon Pepeng but there is a need to strengthen the capabilities of our emergency responders in terms of their knowledge and skills in disaster management," Cortez said.
On the other hand, Governor Teddy Baguilat Jr, who is also the PDCC Chairman, said that the landslide incident during typhoon Emong which buried 18 people alive gave lessons to all concerned especially the local government units here to be prepared at all times.
With the deaths caused by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng in Luzon, we realized that we should not be complacent in dealing with disasters in order to save lives and properties. We should be ready at all times, he added. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
