Malnourished children enrol in new feeding program
Davao City (20 October) -- At least 810 malnourished children in six areas in Davao Region have been included in the Supplemental Feeding for Malnourished Children (SFMC) and Feeding Hope Milk Program (FHMP).
According to Helena M. Calatrava, Dietary Nutritionist, DSWD, the two programs aim to reduce incidence of malnutrition among 3-6 years old children. "In coordination with Mead Johnson, Unilever and the Community of Filipino Overseas, the programs are supported with a budgetary allocation of of P2, 887,600." Calatrava explained.
Under these programs, children are given hot meals and milk for a six-month period which started last September and ends in February 2010, Calatrava said.
Targeted areas are San Isidro and Sto. Tomas in Davao Del Norte, Compostela in Compostela Valley, Lupon and San Isidro in Davao Oriental, and Digos City.
Meanwhile, in support to the Anti-Hunger Mitigation Program, DSWD through the Food For School Program, was able to cover three municipalities: Don Marcelino, Davao Del Sur; Talaingod, Davao Del Norte; and Caraga, Davao Oriental. Through this feeding program, each targeted preschooler was provided daily with one kilo iron-fortified NFA rice in 120 feeding days. (DSWD/degsduron) [top]
