NFA sets IFAD program for farmers

Davao City (30 January) -- In preparation for the anticipated price increase in rice in January 2010, The National Food Authority (NFA) formulated the Industrial Farmers as Distributors (IFAD) Program for the benefit of the local farmers.
The said program will enable farmers to be rice distributors rather than merely being producers.
In the Club 888 forum held at Eagles Bar at Marco Polo Hotel on January 20, 2010, Mr. Felimon Cangrejo mentioned that this program will help the farmers in generating income to finance succeeding planting and other post-harvest facilities.
He also stressed that the said farmers, under the program, will be able to buy rice from business outlets at a wholesale price.
A result of this activity will be an alternative market for the Filipinos who consider rice as a staple food, who, apart from being able to buy rice at a cheaper price, are already supporting the local farmers and the agricultural sector.
This program is in connection to strengthening the priority of NFA to encourage people to buy locally and support local farms. (PIA XI) [top]
