by Juliet B. Saley

Bontoc, Mt. Province (6 February) -- A total of 1,431 identified beneficiaries are recipients of the relief assistance provided by the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP).

The UNWFP allotted to the province 752 sacks of rice, 287 boxes of high-energy biscuits and 230 boxes of lard.

Erlinda Likigan of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that each municipality was given 75 sacks of rice except for the municipality of Tadian which received 77 sacks for 144 beneficiaries. These relief goods are purposely for Food for Work Program which benefits 143 families per municipality.

Likigan said each of these beneficiaries received 25 kilos of rice in exchange of their service they have rendered in community work like restoring damaged irrigation, farm to market road, foot rails, barangay road wrought by previous typhoons.

The UNWFP had earlier provided the province 610 sacks of NFA rice which were distributed to the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. (PIA-MP) [top]
