No room for manipulation of votes, assures Comelec official

Province of Siquijor (15 March) -- Provincial Election Supervisor of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here, Atty. Leandro Magusara assures all Siquijodnons that there is no room for manipulation of votes this coming 2010 first automated election.

e said that the use of precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machine will make transmission of votes safe, accurate and on time.

Magusara dismissed the possibility of cheating citing that hackers can easily be traced with the new machine.

In cases of brownouts the machine has a back up battery that can stand 16 hours of operation.

Magusara also counted the Philippine National Police's (PNP) full support to the province's peace and order during election saying that they have already made a commitment during the command conference last January.

Basically, it's all systems go for the 2010 automated election with line offices already done with the respective preparations, he said.

He reported that a training and briefing to 286 Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) of the six municipalities at Dondeezco Beach Resort, Dumanhog, Siquijor was already conducted recently.

ast March 8, 2010, he said, the COMELEC also made a simultaneous Information Education Drive for voters of the six towns. Within the event, Peace Covenant Signing among candidates were also done in each town.

agusara also said that 144 PCOS machines are scheduled to arrive on May 1-4 at the Provincial COMELEC office and will be distributed provincewide.

But prior to the distribution, testing and sealing of the PCOS machines will be done on May 7, 2010, he said.

It must be recalled that in 2007 May elections there were 379 precincts established in the 285 clustered precincts covering the 134 baragays from six municipalities with a total of 57, 726 registered voters.

At present, Siquijor has 61,002 voters to vote in 144 clustered precincts provincewide. (PIA) [top]
