PIA, media and LGU spearhead Earth Hour in Cagayan

Tuguegarao City (29 March) -- To serve as model in the observation of Earth Hour, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 2, Local Government Units (LGU) and the media practitioners of Cagayan have joint forces in the call to save energy.
An hour before the earth hour, representatives from the said agencies together with some individuals from the different barangays of this city have joined the conduct of a program and the simultaneous countdown for an hour shutting-off of lights.
PIA Regional Director Purita S. Licas, in her opening statement, called for every household of voting for the mother earth by simply joining in shutting off of lights for just 1 hour.
Vice Mayor Danilo Baccay said the earth hour is just a reminder to everyone that to be aware and conscious to the present environmental issues and concerns and take responsibilities in mitigating it.
"Excessive use of energy causes emission of greenhouse gasses that result to the climate change and even the improper management of our solid wastes", Baccay said.
Baccay further stressed that the ceremonial shutting off of lights for the earth hour is a reminder that our planet earth is in danger that everyone must help in saving it.
On the other hand, Ms. Jennifer Baquiran, Economic Enterprise Officer of the Provincial Government of Cagayan, also reminded the public that the causes of global warming are the destructive activities of mankind that is why everyone must shoulder a responsibility to help save mother earth.
During the earth hour, malls, big enterprises, city hall, provincial capitol, municipal halls, universities, parks and residential houses in the province of Cagayan have showed their concerns in saving the planet earth by joining the 1 hour earth hour. (PIA 2) [top]
