by Carina L. Cayon

Davao City (1 May) -- The Commission on Elections has completed the delivery of the 2.5 million ballots to six (6) cities and 43 municipalities in the region.

Assistant Regional Director Atty. Marlon Cosqueja of COMELEC XI said in a telephone interview that all the ballots were already distributed, and are now secured in the region's city and municipal treasurer offices.

The ballots arrived in the city on April 26, 2010. The city and municipal treasurers are mandated to safeguard the ballots.

As for the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines, Cosqueja said that all (the PCOS) are now being safely kept in warehouses in the city.

He disclosed that the delivery of the PCOS to the precincts will run from May 3 to May 6.

In the region, there are 2,555,783 registered voters and 3,431 clustered precincts. In Davao City, there are 948,428 registered voters and 1,172 clustered precincts.

Cosqueja also revealed that the COMELEC is already 80% prepared for the May 2010 elections.

He said that they are about to complete the final orientation activities for the members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs).

According to Cosqueja, COMELEC-XI is currently more into the preparations and planning for the security relative to the distribution and transportation of the PCOS machines to all precincts. (PIA-XI) [top]
