Kapalong acquires new fire truck

Davao City (1 June) -- The people of Kapalong are in merriment seeing another remarkable development in the municipality as a brand new Isuzu firefighting truck with 1,000 gallon capacity was turned over by the Bureau of Fire Protection ROXI in a ceremonial turn-over and blessing held at the Kapalong Municipal Hall compound last Monday, May 24, 2010.

Rev. Fr. Noel Refamonte, the Parish Priest administered the said blessing and was ensued with the turn-over of the symbolic key to Mayor Timbol by Supt. Samuel J. Miralles, ARD on Admin Operation of the Bureau of Fire Protection Region XI. Mayor Timbol subsequently turned-over the same key to Insp. Armando D. Agocoy, the Municipal Fire Marshall.

The P9M fire-fighting engine is part of the sustained modernization program for the Bureau of Fire Protection under the umbrella of the Department of the Interior and Local Government boosting the firefighting manpower of local fire bureaus.

"This is the fruit of our long wait and frequent follow-ups at the DILG Central Office coupled with the support of the provincial officers of both the DILG and BFP and of course the rest of the local officials who are always behind my endeavors," Mayor Timbol said.

He then commended BFP Provincial Fire Marshal, Supt. Wilberto Rico Neil A. Kwan Tiu who accompanied him at the DILG Office in Manila to personally follow-up and facilitate the release of the fire truck donation.

He further stressed that the people of Kapalong are greatly overwhelmed of such achievement knowing that after more than 30 years, Kapalong has again acquired a brand new firefighting engine which eventually a manifestation of their security and safety against fire related incidents as the presence of the new fire truck depicts the municipality's fire fighting capability in responding fire emergencies and other related catastrophes.

It was learned that the old fire truck which is presently undergoing major repair was acquired during the incumbency of the late Mayor Proferio F. Royo, the mayor's father- in- law way back in 1981. Mayor Timbol added that he was even with the former mayor in transacting the release of the fire truck.

The new fire truck is equipped with complete accessories, repair and maintenance tools, other auxiliary equipment and sets of fire fighting gears. The Mayor urged the BFP Kapalong force to give extra care to the unit to ensure long-lasting usage. He also bared that he will push for the allocation of additional budget for the completion of the BFP new building. (cj-MIO Kapalong) [top]
