October is Productivity Month

RTWPB lines up month-long activities

by Michael Vincent D. Cajulao

Zamboanga City (1 October) -- The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board IX (RTWPB) spearheads this year's Productivity Month celebration with the theme "PROductivity towards PROgress", or Partnership, Resources and Opportunity for PRO, pursuant to Proclamation No. 726.

Board Secretary Joel M. Ijirani said they have lined up various activities as approved by Chairman of the Board, Regional Director Ponciano M. Ligutom of DOLE IX, for the whole month of October. Among these are hanging of streamers in strategic locations, motorcade, learning sessions on productivity/wages, and related programs to raise quality and productivity consciousness.

Ijirani pointed the importance of improving the productivity in businesses for our economic growth.

"Productivity improvement should be given utmost importance for it brings forth competitive workforce, business and sustained economic growth for the country", he stressed.

The month-long celebration will culminate with the National Forum of Winners of the 2009 Productivity Olympics.

"This activity will showcase the best work and business practices, lessons and success stories for others to adopt and emulate to further improve productivity not just in their workplace but in all levels of our society", Ijirani said.

The Productivity Improvement Month celebration is a collaborative effort among concerned government agencies, the employers, and the labor sector. (PIA9-ZC) [top]
